Does washer motor spin both directions?

-I have a Frigidaire stackable washer/dryer and the washer will fill, spin, and drain. But when it gets to agitate mode, it just hums. There was a burnt smell that came from it, and it didn't smell like rubber. Anyway, I can manually turn the tub counter clockwise, but NOT clockwise. Its locked. I took off the agitator and all there is under there is a transmission shaft. The same problem exists with the agitator off.

I took off the front panel to get a look at things. Everythin looks fine and I don't see any jams or obstructions. The belt looks good. I have narrowed it down to either the transmission (since it only turns in one direction) or the motor (since the hum comes from there even with the belt removed). The motor doesn't operate at all even without the belt as long as its in agitate mode.

I am assuming that when the washer gets to agitate mode, the motor has to spin in the opposite (or both) direction as SPIN mode. This would explain why it works in SPIN but NOT IN WASH.

So is it the transmission or motor? (or both)The motor does not change direction. If it spins but not agitate or the other way, it is a linkage in the transmission that is not engaged properly. Call a service man to fix it. Faster and easier than DIY.
