Salvaging bad design (in writing)?
-I write about Interior Design. Yeah, exciting, I know. But today, I've been tasked with writing about a design that has (1) no theme, (2) looks atrocious, and (3) leaves me at a loss for words. How can I come up with a concept statement for a room that, frankly, has no theme at all?
My aim is to salvage bad design by making it seem (in writing) not as bad as it really is. Any ideas?

Why isnt my boiler working :-s?
-my boiler has decided to break, the pilot flame is off but the pressure is fine and the fan comes on when you turn it on. It is an old gas combi boiler and has never given me any problem, is there an easy (cheap) way to fix it? I cant see any buttons to relight the pilot flame. The three lights on the display are flashing green but when I turn a hot water tap or heating on thye middle one flashes red.
does anyone know whats wrong so I can get it sorted asap because I've had to use a kettle to wash my hair for 3 days!!!
Thanks! :-)Attempt to relight the pilot.
Place the burner knob to the ignition position if it has one.
Press and hold the burner knob for 20-30 seconds to allow the gas to build up.
Press the ignition button and continue to hold the gas button for 30-60 second to allow
the thermocouple to warm up. Then move the gas knob to the main burner position.
Should this fail wait 2 minutes before retrying.
If pilot light will not stay on it is either a thermocouple or gas valve fault. Will need a gas safe engineer.
If you have nothing on the front to relight a pilot light then does your boiler actually have a pilot light?
Need the boiler make and model. If not then there is an ignition fault. Does the boiler fire up in central heating mode?Dave C may be right but i would safely bet the Pilot light is covered in soot and needs a good clean out.I come across this all the time.Call ur local gas man.Simple job and not long to fix.
Answer from David C. had the best answer. Follow his advise. He is very knowledgeable.
surely it wont work if the pilot light is off, as this is what fires the boiler to provide your hot water

How much do you think it costs?
-See I'm making a fanfic and the girl is a runaway orphan who only makes enough money to pay for a small crappy apartment and a little left over to buy a five dollar foot long.
So her apartment is a unused room with a very low ceiling, no electricity so she uses candles, no water or control over the temperature. There is only a bathtub and table. She lives in the part where this thing makes a loud noise whenever someone uses the elebator.
How much would that be? Like how much would you pay?

Can you wash dishes with laundry soap?
-This Asian lady I know says she does and it works well and I am thinking, soap is soap right? We are low on dish soap and kind of broke.Has anyone else done this? It's not dangerous. It will get the dishes clean and you should rinse in super hot water to make sure you are rinsing off any residues which may be hanging on to your dishes. You can get dish detergent at any dollar store in America. And soap is not just soap, or you'd wash your hair and body with laundry detergent and I'm not willing to go that far to save a buck.Consider NOT using any detergents (soap). In most applications, detergents do NOT clean, they are used to loosen the dirt and water does the actual cleaning.
Step 1
Dishes: Using a dish rag and/or scouring pad in water clean the dish as best you can
Step 2
This is very important... In a pan boil some water and once you've cleaned a dish, dip it in the boiling hot water. The dish is now sterilized.
Real simple and NO soaps or detergents
Sure you can. Both are detergents and will work in a similar fashion. The biggest difference between the two is the fact that dishwashing liquids are formulated for lots of bubbles, where laundry detergents want little bubbles.
I probably wouldn't, since laundry detergent can often contain bleach... also, I think dish soap is more geared to be antibacterial. I would use regular soap before I used laundry soap. If you do, though, I'd say just rinse them really well.
Yes,I have had to do this before. You can use laundry detergent to wash dishes, just be sure to rinse them well.
We use laundry soap to wash dishes.
It is not recommended to use but make sure you wash the dishes very well.
It's probably danger
No of course you can't.

Don't do it.

What color should I paint my living room?
-I have a some what small living room and need help with picking a good color. I have a black couch with multi color cushions colored with a little of each color (black, blue, light brown, gold) I also have a large brown ottoman that will stay in the living room and a fire place with light brown tile trim work that leads to the floor. I will be placing medium light color laminated floors down after I paint.
I wanted to color the living room a light green..not bright green, but think that color would clash with the couch.
Please can I get any suggestions without getting rid of the couch?my suggestion is to choose a color that creates a mood for your living room and at the same time matches with your couch, like light brown. Why don't you experiment with different colours or wallpaper or art using mydeco.com's 3D room planner, you can add furniture to the room, change the colour of the floor (before you choose the colour of the laminate) and you can view the room from different angles and add or change any light fixtures too.
I used it when I was decorating my room and it was OK.
Hope that helps.
Actually the green wouldn't clash if you got the right shade of green. Like a very light sea-foam green. Go see the color cards/swatches at your favorite paint supply store. I have been painting my living room this past week and I am painting it a very light peach color, (with one wall a very light mint green), I believe something like this would also look good for your room.
Would a celery green work for you?

Do you need a permit to redo the shingles on your house's roof?
-I am redoing my own roof with my dad, who use to be a roofer. This morning one of my neighbors stopped me and asked me if I got a permit to do this and said that she always heard you needed one. Is this true? My dad have never heard of this either. I live in South Carolina. No! She's being a Mrs Kravitz! If you were remodeling your roof to change the roof line or structure, you would need a permit, but not to re-roof your house!Your nosy neighbor is just that and uneducated as to her "presumptuous" terminology.
When having shingles replaced in South Carolina you may want to check to ensure your contractor is "licensed", but they and "you" do not need a permit, unless you plan on altering the sub structure to add an addition for example.
Ask her how many permits she's pulled to redo hers then say to her
"That's what I thought...none", but thanks for the concern!
Neighbors like that will make their way back into their house as quickly as possible and call someone behind your back in attempt to report your "crime"
If she keeps it up I would build a 20 foot stockade fence with barbed wire between your property lines.
some communities require you to get permission from the council,,,however if you do not live in such a community you can do it without permits,,,

What is the best way to get wax out of material?
-I had a candle drip melted was onto my flannel bedsheet. What is the best way to get it out, and have it look like the wax was never there? It is round and about two inches in diameter. The sheet is dark green and the candle was white. Thanks for any help you can offer.Scrape off excess is the first step. They also have candle wax removers, find in the cleaner section of the store, such as walmart. If you can't find it, try goo gone and a brush to work it in. When the wax is gone, squirt a little dawn on the spot and wash as normal. The dawn will cut through the citrus oil of the goo gone. Unlike other cleaners, goo gone or some other form of residue will not remove the color.
When the wax is hard, carefully scrape off what you can. Then put paper toweling up against the wax and iron the sheet. Repeat until the towel picks up no more wax. Then, try washing the sheet.
wait for it to dry and scratch it off. don't bother trying to remove it until it's solid again. try to just peel it off. if that doesn't work, scratch it off. then wash it to get the remains off.

Do white flies survive the winter outside?
-I bought some plants at WalMart this spring and potted them up in new potting soil and new containers, but later some of them got attacked by white flies, those tiny little critters that lay eggs on the underside of leaves.
The adults will fly up in alarm if you brush the leaves with your hands.
The ones that had it I moved to the porch and sprayed with insecticidal soap, actually several times.
Now I not only still have plenty of them, they've attacked other plants on the other side of the porch.
If I dump the soil out this winter into the garden, will the white flies survive the winter and come back to haunt me again in the spring? It gets down to the teens here even though we are in the South.
I have a lot of soil that I'd like to save, but would I do better to take it to the dump?If you have the room for one you should always have a hot compost pile in which to renew and rejuvinate soils in. A hot pile can get to a hundred and fifty or sixty degrees and kill any pathogens or weed seeds that may accumulate in your soils. That is better than throwing the soil away. It only takes about four feet by four feet to accumulate enough mass to heat to those temperatures but the piles must be kept barely moist and turned twice a week to keep the oxigen level high. It is good exercise and cheaper than a gym membership. I credit my good health to aerobic compost turning over the years. By the way, I kept three bins five feet square each and four feet high. That's a lot of tons turned each week. Kids have called me Popey. Ha.
Namaste'I am not positive, but wouldn't the eggs survive? After all, warmer human buildings are recent in their species life. So if you want to be sure, take the remaining soil to some more distant place than your own garden.
(((Sara's plants))) I'd avoid stuff from WalMart.
That's all from China.
White flies will find shelter and go dormant for the winter, but if you can spread the soil out so it will thoroughly freeze they, their eggs, or larva, are not likely to survive.
I would not worry too much about that. The natural predators that are outside willll take care of a lot of them. The thing about those flies is that a green house is a really good shelter for them.

Best torch/flashlight?
-looking for a really good torch to go camping and stuf, i have had the cheap kmart ones and was thinking something really bright but something that will fit in my pocket
my budget is only $30 as i am a student who just gose camping with mates
i live in australia, melbourne so anything online can only be from australia
thanksMy choice would be the Maglite (SP22MRH) ... The Mini Maglite LED flashlight delivers performance oriented features in a sleek compact design. This advanced lighting instrument is driven by the next generation of MAG-LED Technology. The benefits include: NEW MULTI-MODE ELECTRONIC SWITCH Peak Power - When peak performance is required. 25 % Power - Low Lighting Blink Mode - Blinks approx. once a second SOS Signals International Morse Code Distress Signal. NEW High Performance Luxeon Rebel LED and a More Powerful Projecting LED Beam that focuses simply by rotating the head. Balanced Optics, combining a highly refined reflector with a new performance enhanced LED, yielding high output intensity. Intelligent Energy Source Management - Refining a concept pioneered by Mag Instrument, the second-generation electronics in the 2-Cell AA flashlight let the user choose the power level and has a Multi-Function Electronic Switch. This flashlite is definitely small enough to fit in your pocket, costs about US$16 online. The fact that it uses a small AA battery instead of C or D size batteries is a huge plus, and the LED light over older bulb style will give you thousands of hours of usage with a nice strong light. Approx 10,000 seller ratings were between 4-4.5 stars.
Anything but a Maglite :-)
Seriously, outside the US, Maggies are rather expensive compared to what you get. And unless you need a bludgeon that also emits a bit of light, yo won't need one.
If you want a low cost quality/brand light, check out Fenix. Otherwise, most of the flashlights at Dealextreme are worth what you pay for. Personally, I'm ok with the WF-606B, using regular AA cells. On the other hand, one of the more recent flashlights with adjustable modes might fit better to your requirements.
I think you should be able to get an LED flash for that price, maybe one of those that can be recharged by shaking or winding. Might be able to find a used one on eBay.

What should I do if theres a Tick in my bedroom?
-The other day I removed a tick that had just attached to me. Unfortunately it fell to the ground and now I don't know where it is. What should I do to find it so it won't attach to me again?Just let it go; one tick isn't that big of a deal. It'll probably just die in a corner somewhere. If it does find you again, put it down the toilet so it doesn't come back.vacuum the floor

What colour blackout blind is best for my blue bathroom?
-I have a blue mosaic tiled bathroom with a large horizontal window - what colour blind would best fit this colour scheme? That would depend on your overall colour scheme - do you want a contrast or a tone? Also do you need a blackout blind for a bathroom? You would usually have those in a bedroom and I would have thought that it would be an unnecessary expensive to have a blackout blind in a bathroom, surely a standard blind would do?

-So I have been observing my skin color and my skin color is kinda pale... Its not PALE where everbody is like "Holy crap this girl is sooo pale"... Okay lets just say I have a really light colored skin.
Im asian, and sometimes getting tans annoy the heck out of me... And to be honest I avoid getting tans so I dont go outside especially not in this hot hot hot summer.
Ive been having this color on my skin for quite some time... Probably months and months, but is there a possibility to bring my skin to its original color?they say everything comes to he who waits

Okay which room do you think is better?
-so for the last couple of months i've had magazines on my walls and it makes my room look darker and messier. i dont really like it.
i want to make it look a bit more brighter, lighter, and cleaner looking. (using white furniture and etc)
but i feel like if i do take it down, ill regret it...
it took me a very long time to put it up so yeah...
well this is how my wall looks like right now:

and i kind of want it something like:
http://i51.tinypic.com/20sc9rs.png
it's the other side of my room,
but without the brown furniture shelf thingy, !
tell me which one would be better,
im 15 btw haha anyway thank you! :)Both sides look like a mess. The messy pile of clothes doesn't help, the unmade bed, the curtain tied in a knot. I don't know how you put the magazine pages on the wall but you are probably going to have a mess under them. You are probably going to have to repaint.

How do i get rid of mice from coming inside my house?
-okay, so i just moved to Palmdale, Ca and i have a PROBLEM ! I have mice in my house, and i want to get rid of them ASAP i literally cant sleep at night... I'm constantly cleaning and making sure everything is organized and put in place... please can someone please help me on some tips, on how to get rid of them! i cant afford to pay a terminator.I've seen those electronic things that RICK talks about, they seem to work on all kinds of pests. Including Roaches!
If you have pets you wouldn't want to leave poison laying around for them to get into, Home Depot carries the old spring type mouse traps (Victor), don't waste your money on the spring type that has a plastic bait tray that looks like a piece of cheese, they DON'T work. Use some peanut butter as bait, I caught two mice at the same time this way.
I heard an old hillbilly trick is to catch a live mouse and drop it into a pot of boiling water. His screaming will drive away any other mouse from your house. I haven't tried this, I don't know if it'll work
If you live in a house see if you can figure out where they are coming in. Go outside and caulk all holes in foundations etc. look for mouse droppings (small black pellets) if you find some that is where you need to put your traps or poison. They make a poison block or packets that is safer that the old stuff. Also buy pet urine odor remover. (my exterminator told me about this) once you feel you have gotten the mice then clean along baseboards etc with this. Mice urinate to mark the route so other mice can come in.
Get a Cat. my mums allergic so i cant have them in my house, but my neighbors cats come around our yard all the time and my house is mice free. there was a short time when there were no cats around our property at all and we had a mouse or too so just goes to show a cat or two does the job.
Mouse traps. That way the body is removed and not left to rot and be an odor problem as poison would do. There are the old style a sticky trap style. Go around your exterior any seal off any holes you could stick a finger into.
Visit http://www.catchmaster.com and order mouse glue traps. They have the best mouse traps. It's cheaper than getting an exterminator. They know everything there is to know on how to catch a mouse.
keep the place clean, buy some rat poison... oh and post your questions in the relevant section!
Good luck

I added some bleach when I machine washed some white t shirts, & now they have a distinct smell, is that...?
-normal? fine?If you added more than 1/4-1/2 cup, they will smell like bleach. A 1/4 cup should be just enough to make your whites white without the leftover chlorine smell. Using too much can shorten the life of your clothing because bleach is pretty caustic and can break the fibers down quicker than just detergent.
The smell is from the bleach. They probably have a clean smell to them. You can hang them outsie to get rid of the smell or put them in a dryer with a fabric softener sheet.

Is turpentine safe when it's dry?
-I wouldn't eat it if that's what you're asking. Once the solvents evaporate, it's as safe as any other type of thinner. The fumes will dissipate, and should cause no health issues. Be sure to provide adequate ventilation while you are using it. Hope this helps.

I couldn't get them to look any better with just leather conditioner/cleaner so I tried olive oil and neatsfoot compound as suggested by a few articles online. Well now the olive oil did not help but has left dark marks wherever it touched the leather and the neatsfoot left it dark and dull (they have been on for a few hours since being applied and rubbed in) Does it just need to dry? Or is it ruined forever? Anything I can do? Help. Please.Hello
We, as professionals constantly battle with advice given on the Internet by people who do not understand leather and rely on old wives tales which can cause great problems on modern leather. Neatsfoot oil and Olive oil are not adviseable to use on leather furniture as you have found to your cost.
It sounds from your description that you have an aniline style leather (one that absorbs moisture). If this is the case the oils have been absorbed by the leather leaving the areas dull and dark. Whilst
this has not ruined the leather it has obviously left marks that you are not happy with.
There are specific products that should be used to look after Aniline leather and if you now use these the patches may over time blend in and become less obvious - these products shold also take care of the scratches as long as they have not actually abraded the surface of the leather.
To remove the oil stains you would need to use a professional degreasing product and this is best left to a technician as there may be colour loss when it is used and this would then have to be fixed.
Hope this helps
JudybIt is dry.
It might be ruined, but unless you get a professional's opinion, you'll never know.
Call a store where leather furniture is sold, and ask them for a repair referral. Or, if you have a shoe repair shop near, they might know, too
You can let it be and let it dry naturally ,and you should let the scratch as it is. Do not so worry about it! Take it easy .Or you can ask the supplier of the Sofa for help! Not DIY!
Just in case scratch it all over. Apply the oil to make it match. This is creativity. You just might like the new look.

Found one cockroach does this mean there's more?
-Okay so I live in California where it gets up to about 100 degrees and up. I was watching tv with my sisters and this enormous flying cockroach flies out of nowhere and then hits the floor. It started squeaking and my sisters pushed it outside with a shoe. Is there more of these because I am SCARED of them. I hate cockroachs. We have never had a problem before of them. We only have ants and spiders (which I don't mind as much since there's only a little). Would there be more in my house? This is actually just a common pest control problem. The heat and humidity is favored by lots of summer pests, cockroaches included. There probably have been cockroaches in your house, but you just have not noticed it before. Just be sure you keep a clean and vacuumed house, leaving no food out and use some bug spray if you are really worried, otherwise it should not be a big deal.
If the cockroach flew in through a window or something, then probably not. If it came from under some furniture, however, it's highly possible that some more are in the house.
Millions.

When we buy a house ho to take care of it for next 40 to 50 years ?, how to make it beautiful for years ?
-mean in whitewash pant etc. how to protect your home from damages , how to make it beautiful for years ?Always have the prep work done thoroughly. Scrape and sand paint rather than waterblast. Get references on all contractors you hire and ask what products they will use so you can research them online. Have yearly inspections for termites and wood rot.don't let water get inside - keep the roof, windows etc. in OK condition
When it is time to replace the roof get a permanent one. When you need new siding get the best.

How do I make my house smell fresh without chemicals and sprays?
-I have asthma and a 12 month old, so I don't want to use harsh sprays or chemicals to make my house smell fresh. I have two cats, and litter trays stay outside during the day but there's still a lingering if somewhat faint smell of cat. How do I combat this? I have windows open as much as possible and I burn natural vanilla scented candles but their scent doesn't last long, I find.
Is there anything I can do that won't trigger my asthma (pollen, aerosol and smoke are my triggers) but will be effective in freshening my house up a bit? Thanks :)This is very popular in the Philippines.
You can have a tray of charcoals. You can decorate it by putting fresh/plastic plants. Put it on the table, near the vent, in your bathroom, or anywhere you think it needs to be there.
Charcoal absorbs foul odors, without the chemicals and no fragrance emitted.
You might try using cedar wood chips. They leave a nice scent .Also, they repel fleas and other insects. Another idea is to insert cloves into a lemon all the way around, smells wonderful.Try simmering orange peel on the stove.Hope these ideas help.
Try putting a small bowl of vinegar next to the cat box. The cats won't drink it, and it absorbs the odors in the air. You may want to put fresh herbs like rosemary in a small vase. It also absorbs odors too.
Good Luck
maybe you should try potpourri. just put some in container in the rooms of your house. and if you get really creative feeling, try making your own potpourri, its fun.

All I know is you can clean your microwave a with a lemon. Try other scents or brands besides vanilla. Good Question by the way.
how about dried eucalyptus branches... the small one that fit into vases.
Eucalyptus is suppose to be good for asthma and they look and smell nice,
they come in green and brick red colors
Many of us use white vinegar, or even dark organic cider vinegar. Use about a cup to a gallon.
Use lavender or lemon scented things for the freshest results.
boil oranges with some vanilla :}
Don't let the cats **** each other.
Tl;dr
poperie
Put some cinnamon sticks in a sauce pan (only a couple sticks) and boil it.
Simmer some cinnamon sticks on the stove.
Maybe you should get rid of your cats.
Clean the house properly...
im sorry to hear that...i would open more windows?
fllowers
just boil hot water and fill the tub with 100% hot water. Keep doing that for a few hours and it will smell new
use warm water with a few drops of vanilla essence in it and wipe over your tables benches etc etc...it works outside too

I would switch the the all natural cedar litter that cuts down on dust and odors. It's rather expensive. Baking soda is a good refresher and is totally safe to use on musty carpets, vacuum after a sprinkle you can also add this to the litter box to assist in neutralizing the ammonia smell of cat urine. There are lots of eco-friendly items available with no chemicals, too, that you can buy if you can afford it, they do charge a little more. It seems the less chemicals they add, the more they charge. Try soy candles, they don't have that black smoke that oiled candles emit, they burn cleanly and are more aromatic.
Using the little crystals you set on your counter top, or one of the cone fresheners are fantastic for allergies. It just gives off a slight smell. You can also try boiling cinnamon sticks and caramel chunks together - or by doing the same with natural vanilla or lavender flowers.
Also, if you have an outside grill, putting some cedar or hickory chips in it and waft it towards the house. It won't give your house an odor, but it will kill off some of the bad ones (especially from kitties). You can also do the same by soaking them in some water and baking it in the over for 2 hours.
You could also try natural cleaning products that don't have chemicals. I know that our local Fred Meyer has some all green floor powder that you can sprinkle in your carpet and vacuum up almost immediately. I was a nanny and we used those for cleaning the living room and child's carpet with absolutely no side effects.
The great thing about the big green push lately, is all the fantastic allergy friendly and chemical friendly products out there!

What's the best way to drain your a/c pipes from ur central basement unit? My a/c pan is filled wit Water.?
-sounds like the hose that carries the water out is clogged find the hose and run a wire thru itYou can hook up a 'Little Giant' condensation pump. They're 110v, completely contained, operate on a float switch, with a check valve in the drain the water won't run back into the pump. I used to use these pumps in a factory to remove condensation, I had to use model # VCL-45ULS item # 553240, there are less expensive models but I had to use this one because it had to pump the condensation up to the ceiling (30ft) then to an outside wall (usually about another 50ft) This is the strongest condensation pump I could find. It's very low maintenance, just plug it in and leave it alone!
If you use a shop vac be sure to take the filter out. Also check and see if there is a condensate pump that is supposed to empty the pan. It may have burned out or, as said before the hose could be clogged.
Shop vac is the answer. Even a mini will do if you have to buy one.

How to clean suede vintage shoes?
-Hi,
I have a pair of cream vintage suede shoes, that have some scuff, dirt marks on them and i need advice on how to clean them. Any household products would be appreciated, or some affordable cleaning products- btw i live in the uk.
thank you so much.Hi - I use a small suede brush on my suede shoes to brush up the nap. It often gets out small spots or just makes them look better. Here's a site with more information presented in a clear manner with a touch of humor.

Who do I hire to install bathroom fan?
-I need to have a bathroom fan installed in the house we bought it has no way to vent out the hot air and I know it needs to be vented out of the attic. I just don't know what kind of professional to call to have it installed. Any ideas?Oh please, a certified electrician? Is the electrician going to cut a hole in your roof? is the electrician going to run the duct hose for the unit? Not likely. An A/c tech will do those things. I've installed them as an a/c tech. The electrician is going to run 110v via romex to the bathroom fan. That's all they do.Try a handyman. Make sure you check references. Ask your neighbors about someone who does odd jobs.
BTW - if you attic has adequate ventilation, you only need to have your exhaust fan vent to the attic.
An electrician. You don't want anyone doing electrical work other than a certified electrician. A mistake can mean death, fire, injury.
An electrician, if you have the money.
If not, a well reputed handy person will do it really cheaply, really well.
Air conditioning company that does installs

Will acrylic paint run if it gets wet?
-I'm painting inside the letters on a headstone and i was wondering if it rains will the paint run? Should i use a different kind of paint? You should use Masonry paint as this weathers well but give it two coats.
Acrylic is never going to make it in that situation. You need a masonry paint of some type.
Not after it's dry, but it might not stay on very well long term if it gets wet often. I've never painted on stone so I don't know what works best. I'd ask at a paint store.
ever tried Google? its full of answers.
Adam.

Why do I have roaches and how do I get rid of them?
-I have lived in my apartment for over three years and have never seen a roach but in this last week I have seen four. My apartment isn't dirty and I keep finding them in the bathroom around my shower except for one I found in my living room. I have a cat so I really want to avoid strong pesticides. The roaches are 1.5'' to 2'' long and have wings. They are also very quick. I catch them with a plastic cup and piece of paperboard and then flush them.I don't have roaches, but I did when I lived on the beach many years ago. Cleaning wasn't enough, esp. when you live in an apartment (I like things clean:) I did some research and came up with boric acid, which I put in all the crevices and windows...like a line right along where the carpet meets the wall...I mean a thin line everywhere. The roaches will eat it and take it back to their nest, and it ends up eradicating the whole nests over a month or so.Their environment somewhere nearby may have changed, forcing them to look for a better living environment. Try looking for their way into your apartment and sealing them up. Start under your sink in the bathroom and seal every tiny crack and hole that you see.
To get rid of them use plain cornmeal. Put about a teaspoon full in each corner of cabinets and drawers. They will be gone in a week or so.

The value of a Riccar sewing machine?
-I've got this sewing machine it's old but it works. It's taking up space, would like to get rid of it. However it's been in the family for many years. It's a J-A34 77688 Type SC-HMno you should first make it good and you should use and it is very useful for exercise.
Bathroom remodel help!?
-i just bought my first house and i am looking for a cheap but correct way of redoing the bathroom. today we took out the existing toilet and chipped up the linolium or vinyl tile floor. there was a small bit of moisture from over the years the hose in the garage had a slow leak and the water dripped through the cinder block and settled into the bathroom. it has a musky smell and i wanted to give it a fresh look.. fresh paint, new tile, new toilet, new everything..
so my question is: with the glue residue that is on the floor, can i paint over it with KILZ gold sealer and let it dry then lay the laminate or peel and stick tile i got over that? i want to seal the concrete, kill the moisture and mold, and give myself a cleaner surface to work on. is this wrong or right? suggestions? Also, consider PEX if you want to replace the supply pipes. This morning I heard a sound under my bathroom that sounded like a sprinkler...it was...my copper supply pipe sprinkling my crawl space with h2o. Eventually I'll fix all that crap with PEX, but I'll solder a repair pipe over the leak in the meantime.
I'd say go to Lowe's and ask someone there - I wouldn't trust a potentially expensive mistake to a bunch of goons on Yahoo! Answers. Especially because it's difficult to fully explain an issue in just a few sentences.
Is the surface relatively smooth? I ask because over time both of the materials you mention will 'relax' and whatever surface problems underneath will be seen...especially with a cheaper/thinner type.
Use tile glue when putting new tile down just go over the glue that is already there. As for the mildew wash it down with bleach.

Why does my window A/C unit keep turning off?
-We have this huge window A/C unit. It is literally about 1 1/2 month old. We got it out of the package, brand new from Lowe's. It's a 25,000 BTU so it doesn't run on the "normal" outlets in the house. The outlet the A/C does run on has its very own circuit in the house. Today I noticed that it keeps shutting off, and I have to press the "Reset" button on the A/C plug (part of the A/C not the wall outlet). What could be causing this to happen and how do I fix it?It's probably a problem with the A/C itself. It would be hard to tell what the problem is without actually looking at it. Try calling the place where you bought it from, they might actually still be able to give you an exchange. They did that for me (even when it was over the 30 day mark) before with a similar situation. If it's still under warranty, take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one. Even the best brands have an occasional lemon; that's why they come with warranties.
Is it on "energy saver" mode? If so, it will shut off when the room reaches a certain temperature.

How long can you keep your room clean before it gets all messy again?? ?
-yeah i'm bored..for me it usually takes 1-2 days. It's impossible for me to keep it longer than 2 days! :SAround 3-4 days, before I start tossing things wherever. Depends on how busy I am.Some days I'll look at my room and decide to do some heavy duty cleaning. After these cleanings I try to maintain it for as long as possible. I mean, of course I can't keep it spotless, but what I like to do is give myself a "dirtiness" limit. I'll clean a few things at a time each day just so it stays decent.... at least until it gets out of hand and I have to do another heavy duty cleaning.
All the rooms in my house are a never ending clean up fest that can stay clean for 8 hours...the time that elapses from cleaning up at night and people awakening at dawn.
So far, I'm at four weeks and counting...but I recently kicked my SO curbside, and it's easier when I don't have to pick up his stuff.
Less than a week before my husband starts putting clothes on the floor lol.
I would say 4 days.
tidy, clean and clean.
Like 3 days, it sucks!
Less than ten minutes for me.
My room is always clean. Under my bed... Now that's another story...

How do I get my gas water heater to light?
-It's a Bosch 13P instant gas water heater. It's being phased out, so the Bosch website was completely useless.
The pilot light has gone out. I know which buttons to press - when I press the gas one, I can hear the gas flowing, but the other one doesn't seem to be sparking, so I can't get the pilot to light at all.
Anyone else had this problem and know what to do?It is wore out get a new gas heater.

Huge thief ant problem?
-So then, i've had ants for a while, but i really never bothered with them because there were only 1-2 crawling around. Recently they are almost everywhere in my home, and i can't get rid of them. I've tried to trace them, and i saw hundreds of them in my room. They are traveling through the balcony in my room, and they are closely sticking to the walls, and going across my room. I can't keep tracing them because my bed/Computer table is in front of me. I'm not sure how should i deal with this, killing them one by one isn't going to help, that's for sure. Any tips what should i do? I don't get it how could they get to the 4th floor -.-!i heard hairspray works fine for spiders but im not sure if that works for ant :S
and theres some ant poison but im not sure where u get it :S
I've heard that human semen is an effective and safe ant poison.

How to remove a set foundation stain?
-I accidentally spilt some liquid foundation on one of my favourite shirts and thinking it would just come off put in in the wash. Turns out I was wrong and all I did was set the stain, I didn't heat dry though I air dried. Does anyone know anyway to get it out using products I can get in the UK? This is the top if anyone needs to see what it looks like and the stain is on one of the white stripes:
http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/tops/鈥?/a>Use a bit of straight dish washing liquid.. NOT dishwasher reg. dishwashing liquid.. Dab on the stain put a few drops of water & gently rub. Do you have granite worktops in your kitchen? Would you recommend them?
-What are the advantages/disadvantages?Yes if you can afford them, they give the kitchen a more quality finish and expensive look. Very hard wearing too.Refurbishing kitchen with countertops is a fad these days. Not only they are affordable, but they greatly enhance the kitchen. No wonder that granite are the ones favored to do this honor. You will agree that kitchens always grab one鈥檚 attention wherever we go and granite countertops form an important aspect of kitchen d茅cor. Granite kitchen countertops give an exquisite, elegant, and classy feeling to kitchen.
Here are some of the advantages of granite:
* They are non-porous, which means the surface is scratchproof. This makes it difficult for the surface to retain dust and dirt. It is easy to clean.
* The surface is extremely solid; it is second in line after diamond for strength and hardness.
* They are more lasting than any other kitchen remodeling material.
* They are naturally resistant to heat.
* Granites can deal with natural weather conditions without any problems.
.... and it's disadvantages:
* The granite slabs are heavy in weight. The heaviness becomes more pronounced when you are using granite slabs and not granite tiles. Before you install granite slabs as kitchen countertops, make sure that the support system of cabinets and pillars are well up to the match.
* Not all granite stones are affordable. The funding factor depends on the amount you want to shell out. However, one thing is for sure that the granite countertops are cost effective, which means even if you spend a large sum of money now, you can easily recover it from the time span of its usability.
My father is a remodeling contractor, and we've installed many countertops, both granite and otherwise... if you can afford them I would definitely recommend them. They're not 'extremely' expensive, depending on what you do, but laminate countertops are cheaper.
A lot of people are leaning toward granite these days because it looks beautiful and they're extremely durable. Unlike laminate countertops, they won't bubble up if you put a hot pan on them, and they are definitely easier to clean.
The only disadvantage I can think of would be the price. And the weight for the person installing them, but that's not your problem! :)
Good morning Carnival queen,
I hope you are having a great day. I just got in from my morning walk at Venice Beach. I love to watch these high flying pelicans dive straight down into the water for a fish.

We just finished remodeling our kitchen. I studied and researched the pros and cons of every countertop for a month before purchasing granite. The big reason was the upkeep and maintenance after you purchase your countertop.
Hopefully I can save you some time and money. We wanted to go 鈥済reen鈥?with recycled glass (third website for picture). Oh boy! These countertops weigh a ton and then some. They are beautiful, but the cost is unbelievable. I have included three (3) websites for you to review. We researched the web and drove to at least twenty locations.

Granite does not cost as much you think. The LABOR to install and SHAPE is the cost factor. DO NOT go to an outlet like Home Depot or Lowes. They are middlemen. The cost will be twice as high. Drive to an independent dealer鈥檚 location who sales granite. Wait there until you see some guy in a truck, who looks like an installer, picking up a piece of granite. If he is an independent installer, he can get the granite for you without going through these middlemen. In the states, we call it 鈥渦nder the table鈥? You are not breaking the law.
If you have the time, do it my way. Make sure you get references and ask how long he has been installing and shaping granite. I am very happy. The cost at Home Depot was $7,200. My way the cost was $2800 with a tip.
You and your family have a beautiful week. Peace, from Los Angeles.
yes and yes the looks and can take the heat of the pans granite start @ $40 a sq ft installed
Yes I would recommend them as they're really easy to clean and look great!

How do I stop weeds coming up?
-10 years ago my gran had her front lawn removed and pebbles put down instead, but over the years countless weeds and even bushes have came up through the lining. How do I stop this or would I be easier to get rid of the pebbles and if so how would I get rid off it allthe landscapers should have put down cloth before the gravel went down. Since that hasn't been done, the weeds and grass will keep coming. You can hit them with Roundup to kill them, or have the stones taken up, the cloth put down, and stones replaced.
look for something called pre-emerger,, this kills the roots before they sprout
Gasoline..Well thats if you dont want anything comin up...

How to get throw up out of carpet?
-My friend threw up on my carpet and I didn't find out until the next day. How do I get the throw up and smell out?- Blot the area with paper towels, removing all that you can with the paper towels.
- Pour a little detergent on the stain and rub it in with a washcloth. Let it sit for about five minutes.
- Mix a half cup of vinegar or ammonia with two cups of warm water. This mixture will help eliminate the odor and any staining that may be visible.
- Dip a washcloth in the cleaning mixture and rub in a circular motion on the stain. Continue using the solution until all the stain has been removed.
- Rinse the vinegar or ammonia off of the carpet using warm water and a clean washcloth.
The best way to deodorize a carpet is to have it professionally cleaned and disinfected.

How to get rid of Cockroaches in my house ?
-Cockroaches are everywhere in my house in kitchen , in rooms in stores, in cars . i spry o them with Cockroach killer but no effect of the Cockroach armyBy a new house. LOL. Go to the local Wall Mart and buy some poison for cockroaches and if that doesn`t help call some home insects cleaning firm.Bug bomb; you can get it at a regular store u just set it off and leave the house for like 4 hours maybe longer. I would suggest getting maybe 3 or 4 of them. They work.
Combat gel is very effective. Use with the Combat bait houses.
Roast them with your cock.
Think like a Cockroach. That won't be so hard in your case.
dont blow up ur house they will still live

Got new gas cooker and now my cupcakes seem to shrink after they out of oven and go wrinkly? What's happening ?
-You're oven is too hot, you need to turn it down a bit. All ovens are different, even though you probably use the new cooker on the same setting as the old one the temperature won't be exactly the same. It always takes a bit of experimenting to get used to a new cooker.Bake them at 25 degrees less than what it calls for.
Nice places in Texas to live?
-Are there any nice places to live in Texas that don't get hotter than 90 degrees, that doesn't snow much or at all and has at least a college or university?I think near the coast would have a little better weather, and lots of places would at least have a Community College.
Why does my water heater sound like a bomb going off?
-It sounds like a nuclear bomb going off in the far distance. It's like this big rumbling whooshing sound when the gas ignites. is this normal? My old water heater never did thatDifferent water heater, different ignition pattern. I used to have an oil-fired water heater, and it sounded like a jet engine in the distance the entire time it was running, a low throbbing rumble with a high-pitched whine in the background.
Some gas water heaters ignite in a nice, progressive pattern from one end to the other, and some just come on in a big WHUMPF.
Sounds like you got the WHUMPF.
Funny, Y!A spellcheck thinks I spelled that wrong.Have the gas company come out and check it's lighting properly.

Can a cold air return be used for ductwork?
-We have a 15" x 19" air space coming up from the basement, between the furnace & chimney, & we'd like to use this space to add ducts going up the 2nd floor, for heat & a/c. The opening to this space is located near the ceiling of the 1st floor, & measures 16"x20". Our furnace is a 60,000 BTU & we'd replace it w/ an 80,000. We have a total of almost 4,000 square ft between the two levels (88x45 total), w/ 8 ft ceilings. There are other cold air returns through out the house. One company says "Yes" we can use it, another says "No", & wants to increase ALL of our ductwork. The additional ducts we'd have installed in that space would be insulated, assuming there's enough room. The chimney stays & will be the chase for the H20 heater. It has been suggested to me that we ask the installers to adjust the wiring & gas pressure to accomodate the increase in the furnace. We won't have much use of the heat & a/c til the upstairs is fully remodeled. Any suggestions or questions I need to know is appreciated. Thanks, -FuzzyThe number and location of cold air returns are dependent on the square footage and the number and location of heat ducts. You need the system to be balanced, allowing the air to move from the furnace to the room, circulate in the room, and the colder air pushed out of the room back down to the furnace. If you re-purpose a cold air return in a room that will have it's doors closed, such as a bedroom, the heat will not be able to enter the room as much as you may need to maintain a comfortable temperature.
So, you can only take out a cold air return (which is also using duct work in most installations) if there is another way for the colder air in the room to find its way back to the furnace in the basement. This would be through other cold air returns in the house, or by traveling down to the basement through open air flow.
I'd say this may work in an open area of the house with enough other cold air returns, but create a problem for you in a bedroom or other enclosed space.John m is correct. I'd avoid any contractor that says you can you can eliminate part of a balanced system as they clearly don't understand the basics of HVAC. And there are alot who don't.

Should all the furniture be the same color?
-I am decorating my florida room. Walls are off white. There is a 5 piece Leather Kiwi color green sectional. The end tables are natural cane. I am refinishing a round dining table to use as a game table in same room. I want to keeping the top natural oak. But I am having trouble deciding what color to paint the chairs and table pedestal. Should I match the color of sectional? Only other colors in room are from valances which are olive greens on a terra cotta background. The sectional matches the green in the valances. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.I have an all natural table and i painted my chairs a green. I would get cushions that are bright and colorful that has bright terra cotta, green, and cream in them.
My chairs had a high gloss on them in which I added a crackle paint then the green paint. Afterwards I used a brown gel paint here and there to age the chairs so they look old - they turned out great.
If you don't like the aged look , pick a fun green for the chairs.
I wouldn't choose to match the sectional (that's a lot of kiwi :) Consider a dark terra cotta.
no need of matching..just go with your favorite colors...
yes, it will be best.

How can i remove odor from my sneakers?
-last week i wore my pumas to six flags and i went on a water ride and it made my shoes smell!
is there a way i can remove the odor without throwing them out and getting new ones?
they're not oldMost odour anywhere is usually caused by bacteria breaking down organics.
It is good to get rid of the cause, or even if you get rid of the smell, it will just come back straight away.
You can get spray surface disinfectant (like Glen 20) and apply liberally. If the insole is removable, remove them and wash them in mild soap, then ensuring they are thoroughly dry, do the same (disinfect them). You should always refer to your sneaker manufacturer's care instruction for cleaning guidance, and don't dry them out in the full sun, or it may fade some fabric or damage some plastics/rubber.
If they have a rubber sole, you can wash them in the washing machine.
If not, put some baking soda inside the shoe and let it sit overnight and then shake it out before you wear them.
Baking soda in shoes let it sit over night and dump it out in the morning. You can also buy sneaker balls which mask the odor worse case senario get them dry cleaned
Wash them in the washing machine and put them on top of the hot water heater to dry, you may have to buy new laces.
Theres febreeze for furniture spray that on ur shoe,
Stick them outside in the sunlight to help them dry and freshen, baking soda might not be a bad idea either

How come after doing gardening work my hands are all shaky ?
-I was using shearsIt's because the muscles you used were tired from their work. This is even more true if they are muscles that you don't usually use much. For example, if you don't typically squeeze your hand in the same fashion as you do when you use pruning shears the muscles used were not expecting that type of exertion and probably tired out rather quickly. Needing to get finished, you kept going and, as a result, they became extremely tired. It is possible you also failed to drink enough water during the work and were slightly dehydrated. This will also lead to shaking.
In the future I recommend adequate water consumption along with an easier pace and, if required, frequent breaks. These are the things I tell my workers when they are in extreme heat or cold because it works. Also, take some time to cool down before going inside to refresh yourself under the A/C. Another thing to watch for is muscle cramps. If you tend to cramp easily after such work try eating a banana before starting, another one (or two, depending) during the work and another after the work is complete. The potassium helps relieve muscle cramps.
Just remember; plenty of water and frequent breaks. The work will still be there when you finish your break; no one is going to take it from you.
Good luck and enjoy!Shaking muscles is from lactic acid buildup because of the use of the muscles. Drink more water (not soda pop, drink actual water) to keep yourself hydrated and that will help in a number of different ways. Your blood will be of the right consistency (you're not "running thick" from sweating all the water out) and your muscles will work better and will not cramp up as badly.
No offense but your probably out of shape! You got to work out more! Strengthen your muscles and it won't hurt you so much.
It also could be you over did it. I don't know how long you were working but usually people hire service to do it. There is more then one person working because it entitle alot of energy.
I must say i give you credit for saving the money and doing it yourself. Next time though do it over a few days or maybe just do your grading with Rubber Mulch it kills the weeds and give the garden a nice look.
overuse of muscles in your hands. That goes away after repeated use but be careful of injury. You may want to take an Advil prior. Good Luck
you are doing work that your hands are not used to, try exercising your hands to strengthen them.

Height of wash basin slab?
-If you're looking a "standard" sink bases, most are 30" tall (~31.5" once the sink deck is installed).
In my master bathroom, we put the 34.5" tall vanities (~36 to the top of the sink deck), and would do it again in a heart beat. My old body likes the additional height.
You need to let the purpose drive the height, if it will be a mix of children and adults, go with the shorter, if used for adults, use the taller.http://books.google.com/books?id=EapEAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA1641&lpg=PA1641&dq=Height+of+wash+basin+slab&source=bl&ots=a3IzjkSTS9&sig=xeDP2Vq3uFbHRsPDRXF2TPHOYk4&hl=en&ei=bGwuTqCNFMGltweFu_zJDg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CB8Q6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=Height%20of%20wash%20basin%20slab&f=false

How do i get this blood out of my sheets!?
-Well... I got blood on my WHITE sheets last night, and i've tried a stain removing spray and washed them. The stain didnt come out, but it's lessened. Can i bleach them? I only have regular bleach though. Please explain how to do anything in detail, i'm only 16. We don't have any special fabric bleach, but we have lots of normal washing things.
My Mum is at work and i kind of want to get it out, how do i get this blood out of my white sheets?!fill up the sink with water and soak it with bleach, it should come rite out.You can soak that portion of the sheet in a pot of just plain cold water. Yes, you can do the same with your PJ's. It takes several hours for the soak, but it works. Relax, you are not the first, and your mom will be perfectly understanding.
before washing them , you could have poured some hydrogen peroxide on the blood. it will eat the blood instantly. it is the best way to solve your monthly accidents, if you don't hav any go to the store and buy some.
I really think you can have try for ECVV's chemical products.
Soak in cold water, then pour peroxide directly on the stains until gone.
hydrogen peroxide
i don't suggest using bleach on your pyjamas..you'll probably get a white patch on them :/

How much woyld i charge per hour for lawn mowing?
-Do I charge per hour based on how big their lawn is, or do I have to charge best on people's affordability??Don't charge by the hour......charge by the "job". If its a normal size lawn I would say about $15.00/$20.00. If it includes doing the trimming with the weed-wacker, then maybe $25.00. Don't charge too much or they will just go with a lawn company. If the lawn is quite small charge $10.00/$15.00. Look the job over before you quote a price.People seem to be more receptive to a standard charge rather than an hourly rate, you'd even find yourself more better paid by doing this. Just go with something small for a tiny garden and work out the money in increments according to size, Id suggest an amount but Im not sure where you are from and what currency you use.
You are better off setting a flat rate instead of hourly. I would probably do it based on lawn size

Can I switch water supplier?
-no, you can.Sadly no. You have to use whichever of the water companies is responsible for your region.
You can get a large tank and have it supplied by culligan if you want.
Try Oxfam. They advertise they can supply a whole village for 拢25 a month

-Do you have any suggestions? there is a small baby at our home(1.7 years) so we avoid any poison or toxic sprays.Use plain corn meal. Put about a teaspoon full in every corner of the area including the cabinets and drawers. Leave it there for a while and they will be gone.Cleanliness is a huge help, but you can try "Roach Food." The Roach Food is a mixture of boric acid, white flour, and granulated sugar. Another solution is P.F. Harris Roach tablets. They contain boric acid and a lure. Dust a fine coat in cupboards, under sinks, around toilets and any cracks, corners or hollow spaces. Or you can try Roach Bait. Cockroach bait is either housed in a childproof case or applied as a gel and contains a slow-working poison mixed in with an attractive (for cockroaches) food. Place the bait in an area where you know cockroaches will encounter it.
The goal is to kill them in masses, faster than they will multiply. This may only mitigate the issue and not entirely solve it. If the issue persists, you should probably get an exterminator.
I too have tons of cockroaches in my house. i recommend buying cockroach bait, which are traps that contain, substances that cockroaches think are food but are actually poisonous. heres a picture. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_yApw4gLxzGU/SaKKtx鈥?/a>
the poison in the roach bait is located securely inside the shell, so there isnt much threat of poisoning to human beings.
We had cockroaches at our house too. When we turned the lights off they came out of the unused shower hole.Try pluging the sink/both/shower holes with plugs. We don't have any cockroaches anymore.
Just take care in covering of the drainage properly.
That is the very source of entry of cockroaches.
Soapy Water in kitchen sink every night.
Boric Acid.

I need to cut lighting holes in ceiling of1953 house but worried of asbestos in what looks like plasterboard?
-I need to cut 5 holes for down lighters in the ceiling. I am concerned that the ceiling panels which appear to be made of plasterboard may contain asbestos. The plasterboard appears very similar to present day plasterboard, but is of darker cement like appearance where it is broken in places. The house was built in c1953 and the ceiling appears to have uneven 'skimming' and is cracked along the joints. I also intend to fit new plasterboard on to the existing ceiling due to this uneven appearance as the ceiling is painted with gloss finish. I would still have to cut the holes on the old ceiling as well for the down lighters. I live in Hampshire. What are the dangers of asbestos dust??? Please advise and many thanks.have a look where its broken but wear a mask, if you can see small fibers in the broken bit of board its likely to be asbestos, dont mess around get professional help removing it, also due to the age it is highly likely to be asbestos and the dust is very dangerous to your lungs, avoid tearing it down yourself hope this helps
i doubt very much its asbestos, but you cant be sure put a dust sheet down and wear a mask, you can buy a hole saw for a drill, this will speedup the job. when you mark your centres make sure your not going to hit a joist then wrap all your rubbish in the dust sheet and bin the lot [ bag it first and tape up] then vacumn the area and throw away the overalls that i never mentioned earlier.
If you overboard the ceiling, then chances are that the downlights will not 'hold' in place, as the ceiling boards will be too deep.
I'd drop the ceiling and start again.
Just use a dust mask. You should anyway with or without Asbestos.

Get money for propane tank?
-Only as scrap metal - and then only if it is empty.Absolutely. Look at getting $1 - $2 per gallon for the tank. This is assuming that it is still usable and has not been used for other substances like ammonia. You can try posting on craigs list or visit your local propane dealer to see what they will offer.
Just what Peter said, but most of the scrap yards will require a 1" hole to be drilled in the tank. Not a fun idea if you ask me! Drilling creates heat and sparks, Sparks + Propane= One good Youtube video for some. Not so muck for the driller.

How do I get out ice tea stain splattered on the front of a new white shirt?
-It's all over the shirt and has been there 24 hours.soak in cold water and use one of the prewash products. Wash as normal. If not completely clean, repeat, (don't put in the dryer, until it is clean).Take an ice cube and rub it in little circle on the stain before you washing it, if it doesn't come out then rub the stain a little harder.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.
Flea spray fumes making you dizzy?
-So my mum thinks that our cat brought fleas in the house, and they keep on biting her. So she's spraying the house this flea spray thing and she was spraying the carpet on the stairs and she kind of stumbled.
She's also sneezing a lot. I told her take to take a break from the spraying because the fumes can't be doing her any good but she won't listen.there will be a warning the tin saying not to spray in confined spaces open windows

Is the gas oven electric supply safe?
-I'm about to move house, and at the present time have an electric oven. The new house however is gas. Although we haven't yet got access to the property we can see (through the window) that the gas oven has an electric supply (for ignition etc), my concern is that this is plugged in to a normal 3 pin socket on the wall (the double type that you plug your kettle and toaster into).
Is this safe? All the appliances in the current house have the plugs further down the wall with the on off switch at the work top level in red. And the oven has a fully wired isolator switch - thingy.
Should the electric for the gas oven also be wired in this manner or is it ok to have it plugged in like a small appliance. Just need to check so I can get the housing people to sort it out before we move in.
ThanksYes, the gas oven only requires a small amount of power for ignition, clock etc and it is perfectly acceptable to run that off a normal socket. The difference is that your present electric oven requires far more power than that, and has to specially provided for.
Of course it is okay to have it plugged in like that. The only thing the electricity is power is the ignitors that spark to light the flame, and any electronics (clock, timer, lights, etc).
AMAZING!I think it may useful for u.
http://addlife.info/452317/small-appliance
The spark device is only a low capacity unit so it is OK on an ordinary plug and socket
yes, of course it will be more safe.
The electricity supply for the gas ignition is very low current and is perfectly safe taken from a 13A wall socket.
When you looked through the window did you see a Cooker Control switch? This will be a single large switch, usually sharing a panel with a 13A socket. Your existing electric cooker will have one.
If your new house has one of these then you can be fairly sure that there will be a suitable connection point for your cooker. It won't be visible through a window because it will be on the wall behind the existing gas cooker.
The owners probably didn't use the cooker connector for the ignition system of their gas cooker because it may have been supplied with a plug attached. It would be easier to just plug it in rather than taking the plug off and wiring it to a connector block.

Washing machine banging, not unbalanced. Left hard dark pieces of something in bottom. What could this be?
-Took everything out when the banging continued after adjusting the load. Found pieces of hard junk in the bottom. Thinking something disintegrated inside of the machine. What could this be?Could be one of the paddles from the inside of the drum (to agitate the clothes) - available from parts retailers and easy to fit - last one I fitted was 拢11 - cheaper than a new washing machine!

How can you get rid of frogs, toads & snails in your garden?
-I have a phobia of frogs, toads & snails, im moving to a house which I think will have alot as it has a pond and it is near a lake. How can I get rid of them?, or discourage them from coming in the first place?... I was considering encouraging birds to come so they would eat the snails but dont know if that would work. Does anyone have any ideas? It's their garden as well. You can't get rid of them unless you build a brick wall around the property and drain the pond. Draining the pond alone will not totally get rid of the frogs and toads because they use it to lay their eggs and will keep coming back for ages even if you've drained it. Snail pellets kill the snails but are also not very good for the birds. You should encourage hedgehogs and birds, they are natural predators.
whatever you do don't use pellets. not only will you find beautiful frogs slowly dying in pain you will also kill other wildlife around, e.g. birds, foxes, frogs etc. i know it states on the packet the dye on the pellets make them unattractive to birds etc, but sadly they do still eat them. i seen many a bird in my neighbours garden dying from them slowly with green dye coming from their beak. again, as stated below, when the slugs eat the pellets the birds will eat the poisoned slugs and slowly die.
the frogs and toads natural food is in fact insects including snails. if you must kill the snails go onto the 'defenders' website and buy some nematodes for the snails. completely safe for everyone. as for the frogs, leave them, they do nothing except jump, that's all. i love my frogs and if one strays from the pond i pick it up gently & put it in the pond. they're beautiful things, if a cat goes for them, they cover their heads with their front legs to protect themselves and you can hear them screaming from fear. don't harm them, in fact its a very sad thing when you have to go round killing things just cause you don't like them. they were there before you, its their home. enjoy them!
Do you realise frogs and toads are endangered? If they eat snails etc killed or dying owing to pellets they will die a horrible, painful death. Use sunken dishes with some cheap beer in them to get rid of the slugs and snails. Your pond is the main reason you have amphibians.
Not easy as part of their natural habitat. So either lose the pond, or get help with your phobia.
Snails you can use pellets but as other answer says if frogs eat them they will die, which is awful. Do you want to swap your frog phobia for my spider one!!
I suppose litter your lawn with standard snail poison that you can buy anywhere that sells gardening gear.
A cat may help with the frogs, but don't get one solely for this.

Who is Good With Home Interior!? ROOM MAKEOVER HELP?
-I'm a teenage girl and want to paint my walls, but I need YOUR help on what to do.
I have a full size bed, a medium/small tv stand/dresser, a standing jewelry holder, a medium/large dresser, a medium desk, zebra chair, zebra rug, and 2 little modern night stands. All of my furniture is black with silver accents. My sheets are silk black ones.
I have one small/medium window with ugly plain white blinds. What kind of curtains? My closet has no doors. Don't know what kind to get or to just put up some kind of curtain? For my color of walls I was thinking lilac and having it fade from off white to lilac then to a darker purple but I'm not sure.
When you walk in my room, the right wall is where my closet is and the my jewelry holder is to the right of my closet (scanning to the left) tv stand, bed pushed against far wall, nightstand to right, dresser against wall, desk to the wall on left closest to door, another nightstand.
PLEASE HELP ME! What color scheme? How should I arrange my furniture and what types of curtains/and or closet doors.
:)Wow, your room sounds amazing (: Well, I think that you should just paint 1 wall (The wall which your bed is against) a lilac colour or a dark purple, as far as arranging the furniture goes- it depends on what shape & size your room is. For the curtains I'm not really sure.. Although you could try creating your room on the Sims, I know that sounds weird but if you have it, it might help :P
Paint the walls a deep lilac. Get white curtains and white wooden closet doors. paint the trim white.
look on google.com, type in bedroom decorating ideas, then click on images at the top of the page for more ideas.
The fading effect sounds bad. Listen, I like the zebra pattern but it can look really tacky if you are not careful with it. Black, white and silver would be perfect with red OR pink OR purple OR coral, which is a little more unpredictable. So let's say we would use lilac(because you said you like it) walls which would give room color and a more personal look , and I would use good quality WHITE curtains(satin or cotton or mix). I am telling you to use white curtains because you already will have too much black and purple in your room and you will need something lighter or else it will feel very depressing. Oh, I almost forgot. You can make each wall different tones of lilac, darker and lighter and you can do one wall with the sponge method:
http://images.meredith.com/bhg/images/20鈥?/a>
Of course you will not use the color of the image. Many friends of mine have used this method,in fact one used purple and it looked GORGEOUS! You can find instructions online if you search.
Now, about the closet, the closet-curtain thing along with the zebra pattern... awful idea, seriously, not classy at all. So unless you don't have money, ask your parents where did they buy the closet from and maybe you can buy doors from there or you can go to a door maker(my English is not that good so I don't know the correct word) and get glass doors or mirror doors. If you don't like glass, then I suggest you use the same material and color with the rest of the closet. These are nice:

http://thehousingforum.com/wp-content/up鈥?/a> (this one won't suit your room very much)
http://doors-sliding.com/sliding-door/pi鈥?/a> (some of these are nice, some not)
Don't forget: don't underestimate white, you will need it, because you have a small window and dark colors; the room will be too dark. Also, use a lot of light (including colorful candles). You already have a color scheme if you'd paint the walls lilac, white-black-lilac it is, but don't be afraid to use more colors, the only-up-to-two-colors rule does not apply any more! Lilac goes perfect with the colors I told you before; pink, red, coral AND other shades of purple like violet, cherry AND with a few shades of orange and yellow(that's more dangerous, because it can turn out good or bad).
I didn't really get the room arrangement you already have but I'll give you a few good feng shui tips.
The bedroom should be as far away as possible from the door and the window but you should also be able to approach it from both sides(don't have the one side pushed against the wall), you should have night tables on both sides, no mirrors should face the bedroom and it should not be on the same line with the window or the door.
Other decorative ideas can be, decorative pillows(different patterns and fabrics),candles, paintings, photos of family and friends, fresh flowers etc.
Good Luck

Any ideas for a low maintenance garden.?
-hi got a a decent size back garden, i dont have much time on my hands, im after some much needed ideas for a low maintenance garden please, thank you in advance.Vegetable, Rock, Perennial, Annuals?
The key is planning and proper planting.
Concerning plants, do it right and add an automatic irrigation system and you won't have to do a thing but, fertilize and prune.
Vegetable gardens are typically the most difficult if you choose to go organic and lack the knowledge of beneficial insect habitats, proper plant spacing, fertilizer requirements, etc...
Rock gardens of course have very little maintenance other than pulling a few weeds annually.
A perennial garden of shrubs, flowering plants and small ornamental trees would be a good choice with bi-annual pruning and fertilizing when necessary.
An annual flower garden could be allot of work initially when prepping soil and ensuring proper planting depths and creating troughs around each plant for minimal water consumption.
I have 3 types of gardens Vegetable, perennial and Rock.
The Rock is definitely the easiest, but the vegetable tastes allot better.Hosta and lily's

How do I smooth damaged metal cereal spoons?
-Over the years my daughters have been careless and dropped a majority of our good metal cereal spoons down the drain and turned on the food disposal. So now they have the edges all chewed up. The spoons can be used but you have to be super careful. Otherwise you rip up your mouth. None of them have started to rust luckily. Does anyone know the best way to clean off the burrs?Emery cloth. It's designed for use on metal and comes in different grits from fine to coarse. Available at hardware stores.
They can be filed with a rasp.

Is there any paint that doesn't smell?
-I want to paint my home, my daughter suffers from asthma.
Can I buy any paint that doesn't smell much? if so could you please tell me the name?
Lots of thanks!House paint? I know there is one but i don't remember the brand.
If all come down to worse maybe let her stay at a friends or relative for 2 1/2 weeks for the painting.
That's what they had to do with my cousin.most companies are making "green" paint now, or low VOCs. you will just pay a coupld dollars more per gallon. sherwin williams has sure green products, and one called harmony. eventually i beleive all paint will be required to have low VOCs.
in any case, you will find NO paint that is completely odorless. the problem is actually the VOCs. probably what would be best is have your daughter leave the home for the day, paint on a low humidity day, and have fans blowing out of the windows. latex paint dries quickly and by the next day all will be completely dry :)
Modern water based paints like Johnstons and Leyland do not smell and the whites do not yellow as quickly as traditional paint. If you want to neutralise the smell of emulsion paint put some vanilla essence in it.
Friend is a retired high class decorator. (Like hanging wallpaper at 拢70 a roll!).
No. There are paints that smell differnt, but not odorless. This is why house painters work slows in the winter. No one wants them around stinking up the house when they cant leave.
Zinsser makes a low odour paint. It still has some smell though not much.

Can a chandelier fall if spun too many times when cleaning(become unscrewed)?
-Our chandelier fell in our foyer. The contractor claims it was because it was spun too many times while cleaning. Is there a locking mechanism that would prevent this from happening? We rarely touch this fixture so I am shocked that if what he claims is true, that there is not a better safety feature.

Perhaps is usually wash clothes left much of the fiber stay there, need to open, the fiber delve will do

How much area can one quart of primer cover?
-how much area can one quart of latex indoor primer cover? i have to paint a wall in my foyer and 2 walls on each side of my 12 step staircase to cover. i have the majority of a gallon of paint left from another project and i'd like to cover these areas but i'd like to know if i absolutely need a gallon of primer.
Does washer motor spin both directions?
-I have a Frigidaire stackable washer/dryer and the washer will fill, spin, and drain. But when it gets to agitate mode, it just hums. There was a burnt smell that came from it, and it didn't smell like rubber. Anyway, I can manually turn the tub counter clockwise, but NOT clockwise. Its locked. I took off the agitator and all there is under there is a transmission shaft. The same problem exists with the agitator off.
I took off the front panel to get a look at things. Everythin looks fine and I don't see any jams or obstructions. The belt looks good. I have narrowed it down to either the transmission (since it only turns in one direction) or the motor (since the hum comes from there even with the belt removed). The motor doesn't operate at all even without the belt as long as its in agitate mode.
I am assuming that when the washer gets to agitate mode, the motor has to spin in the opposite (or both) direction as SPIN mode. This would explain why it works in SPIN but NOT IN WASH.
So is it the transmission or motor? (or both)The motor does not change direction. If it spins but not agitate or the other way, it is a linkage in the transmission that is not engaged properly. Call a service man to fix it. Faster and easier than DIY.

What would cause blue painters tape to remove paint from aluminum siding?
-Two years ago I hired painters to paint my vinyl siding house. The front, back, and sides of the house and shop were pink. I hated it, so I decided to paint it taupe. The paint was Super Paint from Sherwin Williams, and I hired painters to do it. This summer I went to touch the paint up, so we could put the house up for sale; and the paint no longer matched. It had faded and lost it's sheen. Sherwin Williams sent a sample of the paint to a lab, and found one of the tints in it was defective; which caused it to wash out. They had three painting companies come out and give estimates. They said they were the best of the best. Then they chose one of the three. They came out one day and washed the house down. Then they came back to prepare the house to spray paint it. They covered the windows and eves with paper, using blue painters tape. Then it rained every day for nearly a week. Then they came out and sprayed on the first coat. I stayed up most of that night on my computer. I kept smelling something that smelled like chemicals. It completely stopped up my sinuses. Then I got a horrible headache. The fumes were really strong, especially in the rooms across the back of my house. The next day they came and sprayed the second coat. After that the paper and painters tape was removed. When the blue tape was finally removed, it took the paint off of the aluminum siding that's around the windows on the back and side of the house and on our shop. It barely effected the trim on the front of the house at all. The aluminum siding trim came painted from the factory with a coat of white paint, and now silver strips are showing all around the windows from the white paint being removed. This house was built in 1999. We have never painted the aluminum trim. Now they have to sand and repaint all that aluminum trim. This painter charged Sherwin Williams $4,000 and Sherwin Williams supplied all the paint. They're providing the most expensive paint they sell; which would have cost at least $1,000 if I had bought it. I call this our $5,000 paint job. This painter said he had never seen or heard of anything like this happening before. I am assuming this happened because the tape was left on too long, and then wasn't removed correctly. There wasn't enough paper put under the eaves of the house, either. There is over spray on the vinyl. The painter intends to touch it up with paint. He also got over spray on my patio. He heard me say something about touching some spots up on the patio myself. He told my husband, "Well, your wife said she was going to paint it anyway. I'll give you a good price to do it." I had to sign a release from Sherwin Williams before the job could even be done. I am livid! He is suppose to come back this week to put the shutters back up. He said he's going to fix the paint on the aluminum siding, but he didn't say whether there would be a charge or not. Please tell me this was caused from leaving the blue painters tape on way too long and then wasn't correctly removed. Shouldn't he be responsible for the damages, and shouldn't he fix the aluminum siding and paint my patio without charge? What about the overspray under the eaves? Can this be removed without having to paint the eaves? That area of vinyl is white and has never been painted. I would like to leave it that way. He is probably planning on just touching it up here and there. Won't it change colors over time and all of it eventually need to be painted? He is suppose to be a professional. I don't understand, especially when his company is suppose to be one of the "best of the best".Wow looks like you have had quite an ordeal. The only reason I could think that would happen is incorrect removal of the tape. Generally when siding comes coloured from the manufacturer it is factory sprayed which rarely comes off, unlike painting yourself. The tape should not have been left on so long and should have been carefully taking off. As for the vinyl, the no other option really other than spot painting because strippers don't always work and may harm the vinyl. But over time or even right away the spot painting will most likely be noticeable, even if it is the exact same colour white and sheen. Depending on the specific paint used the colour changes over time. Oil based paints tend to yellow and latex sometimes cracks. This happens a lot with paint that doesn't have UV protection in it or gets a lot of moisture over time. I would defiantly get him to do the patio for no charge. He is suppose to be the professional and when they make mistakes it's gotta cost them. Especially a mistake like over spray. That's a mistake for a beginner to make.
the original paint that was on the alum came off. it should not have come off if that was painted on the alum from the factory, That stuff is usually baked on and never comes off, so i believe that the reason it came of with the tape is because the paint had poor adhesion to the alum. When tape is left on too long the problem you have is getting the tape of without it tearing and leaving adhesive on the paint. When paint comes off, it is always an adhesion problem with paint it was applied too.
Just so know . The way paint adhesion properties is tested in labs is using tape . They put tape with strong adhesive and pull it off. if some paint comes off , it failed the test.
Your painters can not be held responsible for the poor adhesion of the original paint. But it sounds like they will try and repair it anyway.
The over spray is all on them. I have NEVER under stood how or why spray painters think that over spray is acceptable . it is not. They could have gone behind themselves and cleaned the overspray off before it dried completely.

Got a question about tobacco hornworms?
-So i had a single tomato plant just to grow a few for lunch every now and then. It popped out some good tomatos but recently stopped making them and started dieing. While throwing it out today i found a giant worm. Really cool looking, turns out its a tobacco hornworm. I would say it was a tomato hornworm but its not dark green enough and the pattern and shape matches exactly to every picture of tobacco hornworms. Anyway he now live in a bucket i put him in with some fruit and the dieing tomato plant. I dont wanna kill him, any tips on raising him and making his home better? They like to swim around in the fish pond.
What can I put around young trees that the grass doesn't grow always back too close to the little trunk?
-?Mulch is fine, except don't pile it up against the trunk, thin it out right there, like a little bowl. Main thing is not to bang into it with a lawn mower or line trimmer.Treated mulch, stones,
Spray around the base of the tree with Roundup.
thick layers of newspapers and you make a collar aroundd the tree

Fukien Tea Bonsai not producing fruit?
-I recently purchased a Fukien tea bonsai for a steal and when i got it home, I did a small root prune and repotting when I realized that the tree was out growing it's nursery pot. After about two or three days, the tree began producing a large number of flowers so I put the tree outside so that the flowers could get pollinated. Then after about a day or two, the flowers, and the stems that they were, on all dried up and fell off the tree. I tried repeating this process two more times, but all the same result. Any ideas on what's going wrong??This site tells how the bonsai should be moved in and out of the house. It might be going into shock.

FIRST ONE:Brother LS-2125 Mechanical Sewing Machine
SECOND ONE:Brother LS-2125i 10-Stitch Portable Sewing MachineI agree with the other respondent. Brother with one letter left out spells bother lol. I have a Husqvarna model 500, and I bought my mom one off ebay b/c I liked mine so much. My last machine was a new cheapie mechanical similar to these, and I spent so much time maintaing it and fixing it.... Buy a good quality used one; you will be much better off, especially if you are trying to learn to sew at the same time. A good quality machine will let you focus on learning to sew, not learning to maintain and fiddle with machines. Good luck, and happy sewing! I've been at it since I was twelve. Love the individuality it gives me!!! :)

How do you know when peas are ready to be harvested?
-This is my first time ever growing them and I have no idea how to tell when they are ready. I am not sure exactly what kind of peas they are. But, they are pretty much basic pea plants. Please help. Thank you.It is mostly by trial and error. The pods have to fill out. As the pods form they are very flat and you will notice little bumps where the peas are. Wait until the pod feels full. Break open and run your thumb down the row of peas to break they away from the pod. If you have picked them too soon, they will be harder to break away from the pod. If they easily slide into your hand, they are ready. If you leave them too long, the pods will start to dry up and lose their nice green color. The peas will taste bitter.
Good Luck!
With peas; it's best to err on the young side.

The rails on our trex deck wobble when you walk on the deck. Is that normal?
-Also, when you lean on the railing it moves outward a little bit. Is that normal? I don't want it falling apart on someone.Sounds like the supporting frame work for the deck boards are either not large enough or the span between supports is too far which would cause the decking to bounce or the railing has not been fastened securely I would recommend having someone familiar with construction take a look at it.Appears that it was not constructed properly and especially to code.
There's a reason why a permit needs to be pulled for some home projects.
In some states and counties it is required, even for a deck.
Either way I would have it inspected by someone who knows what to look for.
At minimal add more sub support to attach the boards and railings more securely or
At least check to see if the builder used enough screws, nails, nuts or bolts.
A sure sign of an amateur job would be if they didn't consider using
lag bolts to secure it to your house.

Why do some people not clean?
-sure it takes.a while and **** but dont people like to have a clean house or place to live i find myself being the only one who cleans around here and after i clean someone just has to come and dirty it up again and worse than beforeI run into this issue all the time with my roommate. In my situation this is his first apartment away from home and he is used to his parents doing all the cleaning, so he figures by some miracle the apartment will always be clean.
I have found that since I am always cleaning, the apartment is always clean and he does not notice he is making a mess. If you were to stop cleaning for a while (yes it will be dirty and that is going to suck for you), he will see the mess he is making and if you be firm, make his do some of the cleaning and he should learn to be a cleaner person.
Hope this helps
I will not have the energy or heart to clean when I'm really tired from my day of work or school. I would neglect everything until I feel better and get enough rest from my exhausting day.
Maybe they like dirty housing.
You shouldn't really care about that.
Hire a made maybe?
they are lazy.
