Is my sofa ruined? Help!?!?

-I have a leather sofa with scratches on it. I couldn't get them to look any better with just leather conditioner/cleaner so I tried olive oil and neatsfoot compound as suggested by a few articles online. Well now the olive oil did not help but has left dark marks wherever it touched the leather and the neatsfoot left it dark and dull (they have been on for a few hours since being applied and rubbed in) Does it just need to dry? Or is it ruined forever? Anything I can do? Help. Please.Hello



We, as professionals constantly battle with advice given on the Internet by people who do not understand leather and rely on old wives tales which can cause great problems on modern leather. Neatsfoot oil and Olive oil are not adviseable to use on leather furniture as you have found to your cost.



It sounds from your description that you have an aniline style leather (one that absorbs moisture). If this is the case the oils have been absorbed by the leather leaving the areas dull and dark. Whilst

this has not ruined the leather it has obviously left marks that you are not happy with.



There are specific products that should be used to look after Aniline leather and if you now use these the patches may over time blend in and become less obvious - these products shold also take care of the scratches as long as they have not actually abraded the surface of the leather.



To remove the oil stains you would need to use a professional degreasing product and this is best left to a technician as there may be colour loss when it is used and this would then have to be fixed.

Call a store where leather furniture is sold, and ask them for a repair referral. Or, if you have a shoe repair shop near, they might know, too
You can let it be and let it dry naturally ,and you should let the scratch as it is. Do not so worry about it! Take it easy .Or you can ask the supplier of the Sofa for help! Not DIY!
Just in case scratch it all over. Apply the oil to make it match. This is creativity. You just might like the new look.
