How to make my room less childish?

-So about 2 years ago, I begged my mom to help me paint my room....purple! Oh joy. And we added pink stripes on one wall...WITH glitter. Please don't make fun at me lol, I was just in the mood for it. And now, I'm sick of it.

There's no way I'm going to be allowed to repaint it, and it's going to take forever to get the sparkles off...So what can I do to make my room more grown up? Keep in mind, I am 18 now, so college is straight ahead in my future (I'll be commuting, so I'll see my room 24/7).



I was thinking.. would I be able to hang some sort of fabric over the sparkly wall? But then I have 2 problem, 1) HOW?? lol 2) there's an evil window in the way.

Any other suggestions?



Thanks :)1) You could hang curtains over the wall. You'd install a curtain rod, just like over a window, and hang the curtains from it. It would hide the wall and there are a huge range of fabrics, patterns and styles to choose from.



2) You could paint anything you like on a canvas painter's tarp and hang it over the wall. You can cut out an opening for the window and use double sided tape to fold over and secure the canvas to make a neat edge. You can hang the tarp from some screw-in hooks or nail a board along the top of the wall and then staple the tarp to the board with heavy duty staples.



3) Really though, you should tell your mom you appreciate her letting you paint your room the way you did, but you are 18 now and its time for a more mature design. Furthermore, paint is about the simplest and cheapest decorating element there is. Painting all the stripes before might have made the project harder, but this time, a solid color over the whole wall could be done in less than two hours, start to finish. Picking a color to make your room comfortable and stylish would be a wonderful and simple way to update your room.If you can't get wallpaper, how about a picture collection to tone it down?

Well..I don't think the paint is childish ..it is rather girly but you don't have to be embarrassed about it. I wish I had a room as yours lol..In anyway, if you don't like it, you should cover the walls. You can frame your good photos and then hang them around in a stylish way..remember, the frame color should not look too prominent or girly<duh>...Aside from this, you can hang calenders and wall clocks, posters with some crisp and fun messages >,<.....Mhmm.....yup..that should do the trick..Best of Luck!!!!!!
